Early-Stage Investigators Grantwriting Workshop

C2DREAM ID Core Hosts Grant Writing Workshops for Early-Stage Investigators, Led by Dr. Jude Mikal, PhD

C2DREAM’s Investigator Development (ID) Core recently hosted a two-part Grant Writing Workshop series as part of the Support and TrAining for Research Success (STARS) program. The series was led by Dr. Jude Mikal, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota’s College of Pharmacy and Co-Investigator/Research Development Specialist on C2DREAM’s ID Core. The workshops leveraged his decade-long expertise in project development, research design, and grant writing. Dr. Mikal’s extensive experience, honed through numerous one-on-one consultations with faculty and research teams, provided participants with valuable insights and practical skills essential for crafting successful grant proposals.

    • In the first workshop, participants—ranging from assistant professors to postdoctoral fellows —gathered virtually to learn about effective research framing and designing responsive grant proposals. Participants took away key insights on crafting a compelling Specific Aims page.

    • Attendees explored strategies to craft a grant proposal that effectively communicates with reviewers. Attendees found the detailed breakdown of grant sections particularly valuable, noting that the workshop significantly enhanced their understanding of proposal writing.

    • Watch the video recording from Workshop 2.

This annual workshop series continues to play an important role in preparing the next generation of investigators to conduct impactful, multidisciplinary research addressing disparities in cardiovascular disease and related chronic conditions. Learn more about the ID Core.
